Convention center
A convention center (American English; conference centre outside the USA) is a large building that is designed to hold a convention, where individuals and groups gather to promote and share common interests. Convention centers typically offer sufficient floor area to accommodate several thousand attendees. Very large venues, suitable for major trade shows, are sometimes known as exhibition centres. Convention centers typically have at least one auditorium and may also contain concert halls, lecture halls, meeting rooms, and conference rooms. Some large resort area hotels include a convention center.

Convention Center station (Jacksonville Skyway)
Convention Center is a station of Jacksonville Skyway monorail system in Jacksonville, Florida. It is located on Bay Street just west of Jefferson Street in the LaVilla neighborhood of Downtown Jacksonville. It is adjacent to the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center.
History
The station was one of the three original Jacksonville Skyway stops that opened with the initial 0.7-mile (1.1 km) Phase I-A segment in June 1989. It was originally called "Terminal Station" in reference to the Jacksonville Terminal, a former train station that was converted into the Prime F. Osborn III Convention Center in 1986. Built to provide public transit access to the Convention Center, it was (and remains) the western terminus of line, which ran east to Jefferson station and Central station. All three stations were renovated in 1997, when the Skyway transitioned from Matra to Bombardier Transportation technology.
The station has an adjacent park and ride lot. The City of Jacksonville plans to turn the site into an intermodal transit station with the return of rail service to the Jacksonville Terminal.

Dallas Convention Center is a DART Light Rail station located in the Convention Center District of downtown Dallas, Texas (USA) underneath the Dallas Convention Center at Memorial Drive and Lamar Street. It opened on June 14, 1996, and is a station on the Red and Blue lines, serving the Dallas Convention Center, the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, Dallas City Hall and Pioneer Park.

Dutch firm OMA's proposal to place a hotel on top of the Miami Beach Convention Center is going head-to-head with Danish firm BIG's plan for the site (+ slideshow + movie). Both Rem Koolhaas' firm and rivals BIG are presenting their proposals to the Miami Beach City Commission today. Chinese architects Approach Design concealed a new hall for the Hangzhou Cloud Town Exhibition Centre with a green roof complete with running track and sports courts. Having originally designed a large latticed structure for the first stage of the convention centre in 2015, demands for more space led to the development of a second, adjacent building. Beijing practice Approach Design decided to take a different approach for the new hall, rather than simply build an extension to the original convention centre. Our masterplan resolves each of these issues through a series of ingenious yet simple moves:
» We conceptually rotate the convention center, reorienting the site to allow for east-west neighbourhood connectivity and a southerly orientation for both convention centre and hotel guests
» We concentrate the density at the centre of the site and make the revamped convention centre and its meeting and ballroom space contiguous with the hotel – a feature that meeting planners love
» We reimagine the area's existing assets: the Jackie Gleason Theater, the Carl Fisher Clubhouse, City Hall, the 17th Street Garage and 17th Street itself are all maintained and transformed to better engage their surroundings while keeping the character of Miami Beach
» We fill the rest of the site with public amenities and programmed uses appropriate to activate the space 7 days a week, 365 days a year

Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center, one of the biggest exhibition centers in the world, is a major project invested by the Shenzhen Municipal Government and jointly constructed by China Merchants Shekou and Overseas Chinese Town for operation. It marks a mega exhibition and convention complex integrating exhibitions, conferences, events (games and performances, etc), catering and commerce.
With the completion of its Phase 1 build, Shenzhen World offers 400,000 sqm of flexible exhibition and meeting space. Once Phase 2 is complete, the venue will have a total of 500,000 sqm of exhibition space, making it larger than Germany’s Hannover Messe, which is currently the largest convention and exhibition center globally.

Dutch firm OMA's proposal to place a hotel on top of the Miami Beach Convention Center is going head-to-head with Danish firm BIG's plan for the site (+ slideshow + movie).
Both Rem Koolhaas' firm and rivals BIG are presenting their proposals to the Miami Beach City Commission today.
OMA is working alongside property developers Tishman and UIA, architects TVSdesign and landscape architects MVVA and Raymond Jungles, who together form a team called South Beach ACE.
"The convention centre site is a total aberration in the urban fabric of the city," says Dan Tishman, chairman of Tishman, in the movie (above). "It just doesn't live up to the standards of Miami."
Sitting on 52 acres within the vibrant and unique community that is Miami Beach, an outdated convention centre acts as an urban blockade – inactive when conventions are not in town, disruptive to adjoining neighborhoods and inhibiting connections to Lincoln Road and surrounding communities. Our masterplan resolves each of these issues through a series of ingenious yet simple moves:
» We conceptually rotate the convention center, reorienting the site to allow for east-west neighbourhood connectivity and a southerly orientation for both convention centre and hotel guests
» We concentrate the density at the centre of the site and make the revamped convention centre and its meeting and ballroom space contiguous with the hotel – a feature that meeting planners love
» We reimagine the area's existing assets: the Jackie Gleason Theater, the Carl Fisher Clubhouse, City Hall, the 17th Street Garage and 17th Street itself are all maintained and transformed to better engage their surroundings while keeping the character of Miami Beach
» We fill the rest of the site with public amenities and programmed uses appropriate to activate the space 7 days a week, 365 days a year
In short, our plan upgrades the convention centre into a best-in-class facility and weaves the entire convention centre site into the fabric of Miami Beach. It will feel both new and like it was always there.

Chinese architects Approach Design concealed a new hall for the Hangzhou Cloud Town Exhibition Centre with a green roof complete with running track and sports courts.
Having originally designed a large latticed structure for the first stage of the convention centre in 2015, demands for more space led to the development of a second, adjacent building.
Beijing practice Approach Design decided to take a different approach for the new hall, rather than simply build an extension to the original convention centre.
"Just when everyone expected an even larger, iconic building, we designed it as a park," said the studio.
